Sasha Shevtsova

Head of Events

Sasha is Head of Events at ASPI and works across the organisation’s Programs.

Prior to joining ASPI, Sasha was the Senior Political and Defence Adviser at the European Union Delegation to Australia, supporting EU–Australia cooperation in foreign, security, defence, digital, and human rights policy. Reporting to the Ambassador, she monitored domestic and international policy developments in Australia relevant to EU interests, particularly in relation to bilateral agreements, regional security, human rights, Indo-Pacific strategy, and EU foreign policy priorities.

At the Delegation, Sasha prepared regular political and thematic briefings, analytical reports, and speeches, including for high-level visits and incoming missions. She engaged with Commonwealth and State officials, diplomatic missions, civil society, academia, and media stakeholders. Her work contributed to the implementation of the EU–Australia Framework Agreement and to policy dialogues under the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), maintaining active working relationships with EU institutions and Member State representations. She supported the preparation and follow-up of political dialogues and represented the EU at public forums and strategic events.

Sasha is an experienced defence professional with deep expertise in the Defence Capability Life Cycle and defence procurement processes. Sasha has worked extensively across the Defence industry, including close engagements with Army Headquarters, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Australian Submarine Agency, where she was responsible for drafting Cabinet Submissions.

While at the Department of Defence, Sasha was responsible for briefing and advising the General Manager Submarines on intergovernmental matters relating to the French Submarine Program. Sasha was seconded to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, where she managed the delivery of the Defence portfolio to the National Security Committee of Cabinet, further demonstrating her capability in navigating complex interdepartmental and governmental processes.

Sasha holds a BA (Hons) and MA in French, Russian, and Politics from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where she was awarded a Cambridge University Prize for Excellence. As part of her studies, she attended l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). She holds a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of London. Sasha is fluent in French, and is on the Board of the Submarine Institute of Australia.
