Joe Keary is a Senior Analyst with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Defence Strategy Program, specialising in regional defence and security issues. Joe has 15 years experience in policy and analytical roles in Australia’s Department of Defence, including as director of the East Asia policy section between 2021 and 2023. Joe has served overseas as First Secretary Defence in the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby and as the Policy Adviser to the ADF Commander in the Middle East.  Joe is on secondment from the Department of Defence, but working for ASPI and its priorities.
